In more sobering news, however, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has officially declared 23 wildlife species extinct and has proposed to remove them from the list of Threatened and Endangered Species. These species include the ivory-billed woodpecker, several Hawaiian birds, a bat, mussels, and a plant.
