Spotting Otters in the Verde River Watershed

Friends of the Verde River and The River Otter Ecology Project are working together on a special project! They would like to know how river otters are doing in the beautiful Verde River watershed. Where are they present? What parts of the river attract them and why? How can we protect their future? You can help!

Otters are incredible animals that show us how healthy our rivers and lakes are. They’re tough and adaptable, but changes in water quality and the environment can harm their habitats. These playful creatures remind us how much we all rely on clean, thriving ecosystems.

By spotting otters and submitting your sightings, you can help map otter distribution and behavior to inform habitat protection strategies.

Here's how you can get started:

  1. Sign up for the Otter Spotter program on the FieldScope website.

  2. Start spotting otters along the Verde River or anywhere in the watershed!

  3. Submit your observations through FieldScope.
